A street in the Bulgarian ski resort of Semkovo, in the municipality of Belitsa, has officially been named “Nomad Place”.
The decision taken by the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria, along with the municipality of Belia, comes to appreciate the digital nomads who have turned the ski resort into a hub for remote workers from countries worldwide.
According to a report from Traveling Lifestyle, the street is named after a place where the digital nomads live together, called Coliving Semkovo. This place is located at the address “Nomad Place 1”.
I’m over the moon about Nomad Utopia becoming a reality in Semkovo with its own street name. It feels like my dream, and the dreams of many like me are coming to life. Witnessing Bulgaria embrace this vision and support a space where we can connect with nature and each other is truly special.
Semkovo Coliving aims to offer an environment where a diverse global digital nomad community can easily combine work, living and a connection with nature.
This new effort reveals that Sofia is dedicated to leading innovative tourism strategies and embracing the growing trend of digital nomadism. By renaming the streets, it marks a significant move in changing the world of remote travel.
The Digital Nomad visa allows internationals to live in a country legally and work remotely for companies or businesses located outside the country.
In spite of the fact that Bulgaria attracts a significant number of remote work lovers, it does not have a digital nomad visa.
However, Bulgaria is part of the EU; therefore, digital nomads residing in any of the EU countries are allowed to enter and live in the country for a period of up to three months without any visa requirements.
At the same time, remote workers from non-EU countries are eligible to apply for a Bulgarian freelance visa, which is an alternative to a digital nomad visa.
Authorities in Bulgaria allowed entry to non-EU nationals who wanted to work or reside in this country as freelancers or conduct business back in 2017.
Such a visa is valid for a period of one year. However, it can be further extended.
In addition, digital nomads from non-EU countries are eligible to apply for tourist visas or type c visas, among others.
Those planning to extend their stay in Sofia past 90 days are eligible to apply for a D visa, which is the closest permit to a digital nomad visa.
