Germany’s Green politicians have called for comprehensive measures in order to ease the integration process of refugees into the labour market.
Top German Green politicians have listed 15 measures that would help to deal with the labour shortage, in Schengen.News reports.
According to them, among the measures that would significantly help at present is the abolition of the work ban for refugees.
The request comes following the federal government’s plans introduced in July 2024, in a bid to lower the bureaucratic hurdles for internationals to take up work, as emphasised by a statement from the European Website on Integration.
In this regard, previously, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) agreed to reform the authorization authority of the immigration authorities.
If they do not object after 14 days, then the work of foreigners is considered approved.
Green Politicians Have Proposed These Other Changes, Too
The Greens have also proposed the creation of a central immigration agency, which, according to them, would make it easier for qualified job seekers to access the German labour market.
Among the proposals is also the introduction of English as a second language in offices.
We advocate working with the offices and authorities to develop a roadmap for the introduction of English as a second language in offices.
The Greens also said that the issuing of visas should be accelerated to make the job market more attractive for foreign skilled workers.
The measures by the Green Party Parliamentary Group Leaders Katharina Dröge and Britta Haßelmann have been introduced as part of efforts to create an alliance between companies and politics.
Skilled workers are lacking everywhere. Bus drivers, engineers and nursing staff are urgently needed.
Dröge emphasised the need to work together in order to ensure that more people choose to live and work in Germany.
Over 80,000 German Work Visas Issued in First Half of 2024
Germany is dealing with a shortage of skilled workers and, therefore, is attempting to attract a larger number of internationals to fill in labour shortage gaps.
This year alone, the country opened its doors to a large number of workers from other countries.
Based on the statistics from the Federal Foreign Office, Germany issued a total of 80,000 visas for employment purposes from January until June this year.
Of those, according to the Office, 40,000 were issued to skilled workers, accounting for 3,000 more compared to the figures from the same period in 2023.
