Indians Spent Almost €6.1 Million in German Schengen Visa Fees in 2022

A total of 76,352 people have applied for a Schengen Visa in India throughout 2022, taking the total amount of expenses for India’s Schengen visa application fees to more than €6.1 million.

Schengen Statistics reveal that 76,352 people have paid an €80 fee for their visa application to Germany, with the highest amount being spent at the Mumbai consulate – a total of €4.4 million.

The New Delhi and Bangalore consulates follow second and third with almost €1.1 million and €508,000 spent on visa application fees, respectively, while the number of applicants to these consulates is 13,341 in New Delhi and 6,345 in Bangalore.

The same data reveals that 13 visas weren’t issued at the Bangalore consulate, taking expenses for these applicants to €1,040, while the expenses for applicants that got their visa applications denied from the Mumbai consulate reached €586,800 as a total of 7,335 visas were not issued.

Similarly, the consulate in New Delhi experienced 1,519 applications being rejected, which amounted to €121,520 in expenses lost, while the Kolkota and Chennai consulates saw three and five applications being rejected, which is a loss of €240 and €400 in visa fees.

In general, India is the third country with the highest number of applicants for Schengen visas, with a total of 671,928 applications, which equals to €53.7 million, following Russian and Turkish applicants.

A total of 687,239 applications were filed by Russian nationals and another 778,409 from Turkish applicants, which means that €54.9 million and €62.2 million were spent on visa application fees from these nationality groups, respectively.

Furthermore, a total of 24 applications for airport transit visas were recorded at Bangalore Consulate, in addition to 122 in Mumbai, 20 in New Delhi and one in Chennai, taking the total number of applications for this transit visa to 167. The recognition rate was mainly high, except for the Mumbai and New Delhi consulates, where not issuance rate for ATVs was 16.7 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively.

As per uniform visas not issued rates, the highest was recorded in the Mumbai consulate – 12.9 per cent and about 10.8 per cent in New Delhi, while the same rates of not issued ATVs and uniform visas applications are evident – 12.9 per cent in Mumbai and 10.9 per cent in New Delhi.
