Embassy of France in Ghana Collaborates With “Africa Breaking Academy” to Battle Sexual Exploitation

The Africa Breaking Academy (ABA) with support from the French Embassy in Ghana has begun a break dance community outreach programme to control the extent of sex exploitation in some communities across Ghana.

The Programme is titled Afro Break Championship ‘Africa Is the Future’ (AITF) and is centered on the theme Promoting Breakdance to Combat Sexual Exploitation”. The ABA will visit a total of 20 communities across the country to educate, entertain, and harness talents as a means to bring the phenomenon under control.

The project is divided into 2, Phase one is Africa Is The Future AITF Community Outreach which has already commenced at Korle Gonno in the Greater Accra region. Other communities to be visited by the team include, Nima, Labadi, James Town and Dansoman.

The target group would be taken through an international standard break dance training session once a week for a period of four weeks in order to build their capacity ahead of the upcoming 2022 AfroBreak Championship to held in Ghana and Dance sport competition like Paris 2024 Olympics Through a capacity building lecture, participants will be enlightened on the effects of sexual exploitation, and educated on how they can develop and commercialize their break dance skills.

Our goal is to reach an average of 100 persons per community while considering a maximum of 500 persons and more.  We aim to train especially the youth to gain dance skills and coach dancers into the professional world of breakdancing.

AFROBREAK Championship is Ghana’s first International Break Dance Championship which will hosts professional dance athletes from Africa and the diaspora including Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Niger, Senegal, France, Mali, Netherland and many others.
