Lotta Cash Desto was shot and killed in September last year, and now a second suspect has been arrested in connection with her death.
According to Fox 26 Houston, Jeremyah Smith has been charged with murder for the fatal shooting of the rising Memphis-bred star affiliated with Lil Uzi Vert. The first suspect, Christian Isaiah Williams, was arrested shortly after the shooting last year.
The incident occurred during the early hours of September 24, 2022, after Houston police responded to a report of a shooting near 5500 Richard Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, they found the rapper (real name Destinee Govan) and another female passenger had suffered gunshot wounds.
According to police, the incident occurred as Govan and her companion stopped behind a four-door vehicle near Richmond and Chimney Rock in a silver Porsche SUV.
It’s alleged that Williams and Smith fired shots at Govan and her passenger after getting out of their vehicle. The rapper — who was only 25 years old at the time— was pronounced dead at the scene, whereas her passenger was transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Williams was later found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen in a parking lot across from where Govan was found. He was transported to the hospital and charged with involvement in the shooting.
Smith is being held on a $500,000 bond while Williams’ is set at $150,000.
Initially, police said the shooting might have been caused by a robbery or road rage incident, but they have yet to determine the exact cause.
Lotta Cash Desto’s father, Hernandez Govan, was indicted in November 2022 for the murder of Young Dolph. Although, it is yet to be determined whether there’s a connection between the deaths of Desto and Dolph.
Last October, Lil Uzi Vert delivered a heartfelt speech at Lotta Cash Desto’s funeral, in the rapper’s hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.
The Philadelphia native spoke in a somber tone while eulogizing their late “Lunchroom” collaborator.
“I ain’t gon’ lie this don’t even feel real to me,” they began from behind a pair of black shades. “Destinee was always on my hip everywhere I go… I had got in some trouble and they put me away I had to go to a rehab program and all that.
“She called me every day… Even if she called to argue with me, she called me every day and that’s what counted.”
After a pause, Lil Uzi Vert opened up about how they and Lotta Cash Desto became very close in a short span of time and remembered their undying loyalty to one another.
“I don’t even know how I feel,” Uzi added. “I got close over a short span of time. Just her loyalty, like, she showed me a different type of loyalty… She’d never let anyone get up near me.
“Anything she could do for me, she would do it. Just feeling something different, especially knowing I’m older than her so she was my little homie.”
