Here Are the Most Educated Presidents in Africa

Ranked in no particular order of appearance, these is the current list of the most educated presidents in Africa.

1. Dr Peter Mutharika – Malawi

Dr. Peter Mutharika the President of Malawi. He earned his law degree at the University of London and went on to receive his LL.M and Doctor of the Science of Law degrees from Yale University. He is an expert on international economic law and comparative constitutional law.

2. Ibrahim Boubacar Keita – Mali

Mali’s president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita also made the list if most educated presidents in Africa.

President Ibrahim has a Masters degree in Political Science, Master’s degree in History (M.A.) both of which he got from prestigious universities

He has an additional graduate degree in Political Science and International Law from the University of Dakar, and the Institut d’Histoire des Relations Internationales Contemporaines respectively.

3. Faure Gnassingbe – Togo

Faure Gnassingbe the president of Togo Also made it into the list if the most educated presidents in Africa.

Gnassingbe completed his secondary education at Lome before moving on to bag a degree in financial business management at Paris and an MBA at The George Washington University in the USA. Education : Master of Business Administration (M.B.A), Bachelor of Business (B.B.A).

4. Alassane Quattara – Cote d’ Ivoire

Quattara graduated with a BSc degree from the Drexel Institute of Technology, which is now called Drexel University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He later obtained both his master’s degree in economics and PhD in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, United States. He was re-elected for a second five year term last year.

5. Dr Mulatu Teshome – Ethiopia

The president if Ethiopia Dr. Malatu Teshome acquired his education in China. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy of political economy and a doctorate in international law at the Peking University, China.

6. John Magufuli – Tanzania

Nicknamed the “Tanzanian bulldozer” Dr John Joseph Magufuli has the following qualifications:

• BSC in Chemistry from University of Dar es Salaam
• Master’s degree in Chemistry from University of Dar es Salaam
• Doctorate degree in Chemistry from the University of Dar es Salaam.

He has being described as the most educated president in Africa.

7. King Mohammed VI – Morocco

Mohammed VI- the King of Morocco, completed his primary and secondary studies at the Royal College.

Later on he attained his Baccalaureate in 1981 and went on to gain a bachelor’s degree in law at the Mohammed V University at Agdal. He obtained his first Certificat d’Études Supérieures (CES) in political sciences and also obtained a Diplôme d’Études Approfondies (DEA) in public law.
He also has a PhD in law from the French University of Nice Sophia Antipolis.

8. Mohammed Abdullahi Mohamed – Somalia

After completing his high school education, Mohammed went on to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in History from the State University of New York at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. He followed in 2009 with a Master’s degree in Political Science (American Studies) from the University at Buffalo. His thesis was titled: “U.S. Strategic Interest in Somalia: From the Cold War Era to the War on Terror.”
