The Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II has admonished the management of COA Research and Manufacturing Company Limited (COA RMCL) to strive to live up to the standards of the Food and Drugs Authority to avoid a recurrence of the unfortunate events that occurred recently.
The Otumfuor Osei Tutu II made the call when the management of COA Research and Manufacturing Company, led by its Board Chair Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VI called on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Wednesday.
The visit was to brief the Otumfuor about the Company and its maiden product, COA Mixture which has gone through a lot of transformation aimed at offering quality and efficient product to support the wellbeing of customers everywhere.
The first Deputy CEO of the company, Nana Ohemeng Awere, addressing The Asantehene and his chiefs recalled the various efforts that have been made over the years to repackage the product to ensure it is safe and effective for human consumption.
He noted that, contrary to what others might have thought, the FDA, irrespective of the recent events, have rather supported the company to be well-positioned to provide a product of higher quality to its clients.
“COA FS is now called “COA Mixture and has been registered by the FDA as medicine for general wellbeing. The product has supported the wellbeing of many people and several users have testified to its efficacy against their diseased conditions,” he added.
The visit, according to Nana Awere was to inform the Otumfuor about the COA journey so far even as it makes a significant impact on people’s health across the world.
The Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu, therefore, applauded the management of COA RMCL for the great initiatives. He admonished the management of the company to make research an integral part of their business initiatives.
“If indeed this medicine has gone through a lot of research and people are taking it and enjoying good health, then we shall all take COA Mixture so we can look healthy,” he said. According to Otumfuor, if others can make it in this industry, then you can also make it with hard work and determination. He noted that for the company to expand to other parts of the world, it is important that its management pay attention to issues of sustainability, adding,” if others can build theirs to last, you can also do same”
“Do not make monetary gains your priority at this stage. Once you put in your best through the various research you have conducted so far, it is possible that in the future money spent on importing some of these medicines will be minimized. He applauded the manufacturer, Professor Samuel Ato Duncan for his brilliant efforts that led to the discovery of this medicine.
He assured the management of the company that he will personally start taking COA Mixture to support his health.
Some other members of the delegation include the Acting Ceo of Coa Research and Manufacturing Company Ltd Miss Princess Duncan, the Administrator, Dr Richard Nsiah-Agyemang and some staff of the company.
It would be recalled that early last year, the company came under the radar of the Food and Drugs Authority for their inability to meet safety requirements as set out in its regulation. The company was asked to recall some batches of its products which, according to the regulator, were contaminated. Key Quality Management Systems were then put in place by the company to correct all the identified anomalies.
The FDA, having satisfied itself with the compliance by the company as far as the Corrective and Preventive Actions were concerned, then issue a letter lifting the suspension of the company’s manufacturing licence.
However, the company was required to change the name of the product from COA FS to COA Mixture. Unlike previously where the product was registered by the FDA as a Food Supplement, the Regulator this time registered it as a medicine for General wellbeing.
