Senzo Meyiwa’s older brother Siya has dismissed the new twist in the murder of the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and Orlando Pirates captain.
City Press newspaper had on Sunday August 30, reported that one of the hitmen who killed the footballer made a confession in June admitting to the murder and implicating Meyiwa’s lover and songstress Kelly Khumalo as the mastermind of the plot. It was also reported that investigators have submitted the docket to prosecutors to obtain warrants of arrests for all the people implicated in the murder.
However reacting to the report, the late footballer’s family in an interview with Briefly described it as just another diversion by the law enforcement officers. The South African law enforcement authorities were also described as ‘useless’ and ‘toothless’ by the family.
“I can tell you now that this is another diversion from the real killers of my brother. And as the family, no one has come to us with these revelations and these people called hitmen are faceless.
“Senzo belonged to the nation. We only produced him and handed over to the nation. So, I’m pretty sure we are not the only ones who are feeling the pain of not seeing justice being served. “
He further averred that the law enforcement officials will be judged harshly for the shambolic manner they handled the investigation.
The footballer’s brother added;
“But one day, history will judge them harshly. We have endured inexplicable pain as the family and they tell us about faceless people.
“Imagine, it has taken them more than six years now to investigate a case of someone who was killed in front of people.”
Meyiwa’s mother, Ntombifuthi on her own part said she did not believe the latest development and will only speak when the real killers of her son are apprehended.
“I will talk about this when the real killers of my son are arrested, for now I’m not prepared to say anything.”
Meyiwa was shot dead in a robbery attack at Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus in 2014. Unfortunately, no one has been prosecuted for the crime.
