Princess Charlene says goodbye to South Africa, returns to Monaco.

Princess Charlene has returned to Monaco after an extended stay in South Africa.

The princess initially visited the country in March to attend the funeral service of King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal. She also carried out work in the country related to her various charities. However, after contracting an ENT infection in May, she underwent numerous procedures due to complications, and was rushed to hospital once again in September after “suddenly collapsing”. She underwent one final procedure in October.

Princess Charlene returned home to Monaco on Sunday evening, a press statement has since confirmed. “She has recovered well, is healthy, and is looking forward to reuniting with her family,” the statement reads.

The former Olympic swimmer was able to put her extra time in South Africa to “extra” good use, however, and shifted her focus to her various initiatives, including #chasingzero, #educate2gether, and #feed2gether.

Before her departure, the royal said: “South Africa has – and always will be – in my heart. Every time I visit this beautiful country, I am filled with immense joy and pride. I want to thank everyone for being so hospitable and supportive during my time here. I am looking forward to reuniting with my six-year-old twins, Jacques and Gabriella, and husband, Prince Albert.”

In a video clip shared by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, Her Serene Highness is presented with a gift from His Royal Highness Misuzulu kaZwelithini before her departure. Further, she says: “It’s been, obviously, a very challenging time to be here, but at the same time it has been wonderful being back in South Africa. I’d like to thank the doctors in South Africa who’ve done a tremendous job in helping me, and I’m so looking forward to getting back to my children. Thank you, South Africa, thank you, everyone, and God bless you.
