Award-winning comedian, actor and presenter Mpho ‘Popps’ Modikoane, along with musician and entertainer Mzwakhe Mbuli Junior, better known as Robot Boii, have joined Lawrence Maleka and Nandi Madida as hosts of the upcoming South African Music Awards (SAMAs).

Modikoane and Robot Boii will host night one of the 28th instalment of the prestigious awards on Saturday, 27 August, while Maleka and Madida will host the second night of the awards on Sunday, 28 August. The awards take place at Sun City.

Modikoane previously hosted #SAMA24 and #SAMA25 in 2018 and 2019. Robot Boii, meanwhile, recently took the country by storm with a viral dance challenge set to his single, Salary Salary (featuring Mellow and Sleazy).

Night one of the awards will be streamed live on the SAMAs TikTok page and YouTube channel. Night two will be broadcast live on SABC 1 at 20:00.

The awards ceremony’s hosting team is completed by TikTok sensation, comedian, and emcee Alphi Sipho Mkhwanazi. He will host the red carpet and behind-the-scenes proceedings for the TikTok stream.

In a press statement, RiSA (Recording industry of South Africa) CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said they are gearing up for “an impeccable production”, adding they have sought the “highest” calibre of hosts and performers to give viewers an “unforgettable celebration of music’s finest”.

“The dates are set, and we look forward to celebrating musical excellence alongside fans.”
