The ‘Girls Trip 2’ Movie Reuniting Full Cast For Adventure to Be Filmed in Ghana

Film writer, director and producer Tracy Oliver has confirmed that the full cast of 2017 film Girls Trip is returning for a sequel.

Pack your bags for the Girls Trip sequel. Filmmaker, producer and writer Tracy Oliver – who penned the inaugural 2017 film – confirmed to Variety Studio during Sundance Film Festival that a reunion between actresses Regina HallQueen LatifahJada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish is coming.

While promoting the second season of Amazon Prime series Harlem, Oliver shared that she had a “definitive ‘Girls Trip 2’” update,” saying that the sequel is “officially happening.” Also providing the plot, Oliver joked that co-producer Will Packer “might kill me, we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”

Actress Shoniqua Shandai, co-star of Harlem with Meagan Good, Grace Byers and Jerrie Johnson shouted “Afrochella!” after Oliver gave the news, referring to the annual Afrochella festival in Ghana. The premiere music and cultural event borrows its name from Indio, California’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which has featured prominent African music acts including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Uncle Waffles and more. Oliver confirmed that Girls Trip will look to have the friend group attend the festival, although the production timeline is unknown.

The first Girls Trip was a box office hit, grossing $140 million worldwide on a modest $16 million budget. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the movie made Haddish a household name in comedy. Last year, Haddish was at the center of a controversial lawsuit, where the comedian and actress was accused of child sex abuse, citing explicit skits that featured Haddish, comedian Aries Spears and two minors; a 14-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother. The lawsuit was later dismissed.
