Budapest Airport Gears Up for Busy Winter Season, Expecting Over One Million Monthly Passengers

0

Hungary’s Budapest Airport is anticipated to welcome more than one million passengers monthly throughout the winter season.

According to the airport, travellers from Budapest now have access to 107 destinations served by 36 airlines, offering a wide range of choices for those planning a getaway.

The winter schedule includes a total of 107 destinations, with several airlines increasing frequencies. I feel that Budapest Airport is well on the way to attracting more passengers and flights to Hungary in the future, thus contributing to the development of the Hungarian national economy and tourism.

Thanks to the expanded flight routes available at Ferenc Liszt International Airport, the 2023-2024 winter schedule, which began on October 29, offers something for both those seeking warmer climates and those desiring to experience northern landscapes.

With the end of the COVID pandemic, rapid growth has clearly started. While last year, we were 25 per cent behind the year before the pandemic, this summer, traffic at Ferenc Liszt International Airport reached 90 per cent of the record year 2019. – Balázs Bogáts, chief commercial officer at Budapest Airport

Furthermore, travellers will have numerous opportunities to discover Europe’s renowned capitals and the United Kingdom.

Ryanair has introduced new flights to Tenerife, Alicante and Birmingham, while Wizz Air has expanded its offerings to include Sharm El Sheikh and Cairo in Egypt, along with Glasgow and Copenhagen.

Additionally, Iberia, the Spanish national carrier, will be boosting the frequency of its daily Madrid flights, and Wizz Air will implement a similar increase in frequency on the Budapest-Dubai route.

Apart from Wizz Air, Emirates and FlyDubai will also provide flights to the United Arab Emirates’ most populous city.

During the winter schedule, Air Serbia will operate eighteen weekly flights to Belgrade, facilitating convenient connections to Skopje, Sarajevo, Tirana and Tivat. Air France, France’s national carrier, is ramping up the frequency of its Paris flights to 18 per week.

Moreover, just like in the summer season, SunExpress’s Budapest-Antalya route and airBaltic’s flight to Riga will continue to run twice a week in the winter schedule.

The high expectations for passenger traffic at the Hungarian airport come as no surprise, considering its successful summer season and recent recognition as the Budapest Airport was awarded the Best Airport by the Airports Council International (AIC) earlier this year.
