Between January and September 2022, more than 250,000 Polish nationals visited Bulgaria, as revealed by the Bulgarian Minister of Tourism, Zaritsa Dinkova.

Whereas during the eight months of 2023, the number of Polish tourists grew by 19.4 per cent.

In an interview with the Polish media, Wasza Turystyka, the minister Dinkova expressed the expectation that the number of Polish tourists visiting Bulgaria will reach the pre-pandemic levels this year.

According to our strategy, we aim to increase the flow of tourists, in both directions – including to Poland. I believe that both countries have a lot to offer, especially in the segments of cultural, culinary, and natural tourism.

She also revealed that the majority of Polish tourists (90 per cent) visit Bulgaria for summer holidays. Their favorite destinations seem to be Nesebar with Sunny Beach (more than 100,000 visitors), and the region of Varna (63,000 visitors).

Minister Dinkova further unveiled their plans to attract the attention of Polish tourists to the spa and wellness sector, while emphasizing that this field of tourism is less known in Bulgaria.

She also pointed out that Bulgaria ranks second in Europe, following Iceland, with the highest number of mineral water sources.

This sector is developing very quickly, the product we offer is of the highest quality, and Bulgarian spa holidays are appreciated not only by domestic tourists but also by international ones.

Minister Dinkova

Addressing Bulgaria’s tourism challenges, she emphasized two priorities: enhancing product quality and its efficient advertising and creating better working conditions for entrepreneurs.

She also pointed out that their goal as a Ministry remains to improve the quality of the tourism products and services while keeping attractive prices.

We offer a wide range of services for both for less affluent customers and for high-budget ones. In fact, everyone will find something for themselves in our country.

Minister Dinkova

In general terms, the tourism industry in Bulgaria is growing and becoming an important key to the country’s economy. According to a projection by the World Travel & Tourism Council, by 2033, ten per cent of Bulgaria’s economy will be supported by the travel and tourism sector.

Additionally, Bulgaria has been chosen as a “Preferred Destination” for 2024 by the European Associations of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (ECTAA).
