Prague Claims Second Spot on the Global Map as Ideal Destination for Solo Travelers

0

The Czech capital, Prague, has taken second place on the list of top global destinations for solo explorers.

According to a recent study by travel operator Planet Cruise, this study based its methodology on identifying the most ideal places for solo adventurers, taking into account six essential factors:

  • Safety ratings
  • Average hotel costs per night
  • Availability of group activities
  • The wealth of attractions
  • Cost of a single public transport ticket
  • The general welcoming atmosphere of the city

Taking all these factors into account, Prague earned a score of 4.6 out of 5, ranking just below Tokyo, the top-ranked city.

In particular, Prague excelled in the safety category, boasting a safety index of 75.39 on Numbeo, outperforming many other European cities. In another study earlier this year, Prague was also crowned the safest city for travellers in Europe.

As the report reveals, Prague also excels in the friendliness index, achieving a strong score of 62 out of 100. However, only Vienna managed to surpass Prague in this category. While Prague’s performance in the hotel cost category was average, with an average nightly price of USD 113, it stood out with an above-average number of attractions, with nearly 4,000 in total. In addition, Prague offered an average number of group tours, reaching 1,000.

The capital of Czechia, in 2021, had been listed among the world’s top destinations for solo female travellers. During the same year, TimeOut recognised the Czech capital by ranking it as the seventh-best city globally. Moreover, for those travelling with children, Prague remains an attractive option. Last year, it won the title of the most child-friendly holiday city in Europe.

Based on Planet Cruise’s report, these are the world’s top solo travel destinations:

  • Tokyo (Japan)
  • Prague (Czechia)
  • Beijing (China)
  • Hanoi (Vietnam)
  • Shanghai (China)
  • Chiang Mai (Thailand)
  • Budapest (Hungary)
  • Vienna (Austria)
  • Rome (Italy)
  • Bucharest (Romania)

While Prague offers many advantages for solo travellers, one potential drawback can be the challenge of communication within the city. Last year’s study concluded that Prague was one of the “most challenging” places in Europe regarding language navigation.

On the other hand, its commendable safety levels, relatively affordable prices and wealth of attractions serve to emphasise its position as an extremely attractive destination for solo travellers.
