Slovenia’s population experienced an increase during the second quarter of this year,, primarily attributed to positive net migration, the Statistical Office of Slovenia has revealed.
The same source revealed that the number of net migrations in Slovenia in the second quarter of the year is 4,059, which represents a 23 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
In the second quarter, the natural decrease and positive net migration continued. The total increase was 3,263.
The data shows that the country has witnessed a notable increase in the number of immigrants arriving from other countries, surpassing the count of individuals leaving Slovenia for other nations, meaning that the number of immigrants was higher that the number of emigrants.
During the second quarter of this year, the number of international migrants reached 8,414. This figure represents a 7.09 per cent increase compared to the same period in the previous year when there were 7,857 immigrants from abroad.
On the other hand, Slovenia recorded 4,355 individuals emigrating abroad, reflecting a 4.43 per cent decrease compared to the same period in the previous year when 4,557 people left the country to emigrate overseas.
Moreover, another factor contributing to the population growth is a decrease in the number of deaths. In the second quarter of this year, Slovenia recorded 4,998 deaths, marking a 3.28 per cent decrease compared to the same period in the previous year when the country registered 5,168 deaths.
A slightly different picture is painted when considering the number of live births registered.
According to the same source, there were 4,202 live births registered in the country during this period. This number signifies a 4.17 per cent decrease when compared to the same period in 2022, when the country recorded 4,385 live births.
The data also highlighted a trend of fewer marriages and rising divorces. In the second quarter of 2023, there were 2,186 marriages, reflecting a 3.7 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year when 2,270 marriages were recorded.
In contrast, the number of divorces increased by 2.86 per cent. Specifically, 574 divorces were recorded during the second quarter of this year, whereas the previous year registered 558 divorces.
Previously it was reported that foreign population rates in Slovenia have increased by nine per cent as of January 2023, accounting for almost 9,800 new residents in the country.
