Recent data provided by the Spanish tourism office, Turespaña, indicate that in January 2024, the total number of seats planned for international flights to Spain was 7.4 million. This represents a 13 per cent increase compared to January 2023, when 6.6 million seats were offered.

According to the same source, when comparing the forecasts for January 2024 with the equivalent date in 2023, it is evident that the main issuing markets, namely the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy, continue to perform well. Specifically, there is a 5.9 per cent increase in seats from the UK, a 12.2 per cent increase from Germany, and a 20.7 per cent increase from Italy.

This forecast confirms the strength of tourism in Spain, with data that predicts an excellent year 2024, just as 2023 has been, where we have already surpassed pre-pandemic figures.

Exceptional growth rates were also seen in Poland and Czechia, exceeding 50 per cent in accelerated growth. In addition, significant increases of over 15 per cent are evident in Ireland, the United States, Colombia, Austria, and Türkiye.

Previous Turespaña data also showed a significant increase in the total number of seats scheduled for international flights to Spain in December 2023, reaching 8.1 million. Such a figure represented a 14.2 per cent growth compared to December 2022, when 7.1 million places were offered.

In December 2022, Poland showed outstanding performance, with 90.7 per cent more places planned than the year before. Following closely behind, Czechia showed a significant increase of 46.2 per cent, while the US demonstrated a 27.2 per cent year-over-year increase in seats.

At the same time, Austria experienced a 26.4 per cent year-on-year increase in seats on flights scheduled for December. The distribution of seats on scheduled flights by country reveals that the UK leads with 19.3 per cent of the total reserved seats for the month, followed by Germany with 12.6 per cent, and Italy secures the third position with 9.7 per cent.

Moreover, Turespaña’s October 2023 report showed a 9.8 per cent year-over-year increase in the number of flight seats compared to the same month in 2022, which had a total of 9.6 million seats.

Compared to September 2019, there was a difference of 393,552 more places since October of that year, which recorded a total of 10.1 million planned places.
