All travellers crossing the Ukrainian-Hungarian border through the Kosyno checkpoint are warned of potential delays from August 21 to 26 due to scheduled modular construction replacement.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) has issued a warning about possible disruptions during this period, which may significantly impact border crossing times, Schengen.News reports.
This construction work will primarily affect Ukrainians travelling through this border point. The SBGS’s official Telegram channel also indicates that the construction may interrupt the regular flow of checkpoint operations, leading to extended wait times for both drivers and passengers.

Alternative Crossings to Hungary to Avoid Kosyno Delays
To minimise inconvenience, travellers are encouraged to prepare for possible queues and allow extra time for their journey. It is also advisable to consider alternative routes to avoid the Kosyno roadblock during this period.
Other border crossing points with Hungary include Chop (Tisa), Dzvinkove, Luzhanka and Vylok, although the Chop (Tisa) checkpoint usually experiences the longest queues.
Travellers should regularly check official SBGS resources for the latest updates on the status of the Kosyno checkpoint and plan accordingly to account for any unforeseen delays. The ongoing construction is part of a broader maintenance effort aimed at improving checkpoint infrastructure for long-term benefits despite short-term disruptions.
Green Card Insurance is Required for Entry Into Hungary
Additionally, those planning to enter Hungary by car should ensure that they have a valid Green Card insurance policy. This insurance is necessary for vehicles to be allowed to cross the border. Lack of insurance or delays in obtaining it can result in significant fines, vehicle impoundment and deportation, and a re-entry ban.
In a similar development, due to repairs, Poland’s Dorohusk border crossing with Ukraine is closed from August 5 to November 14, 2024. These surface repairs are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions, affecting commuters and truck drivers.
On June 4, Polish protesters blocked truck traffic near the Rava-Ruska-Hrebenne checkpoint, halting the departure of trucks from Ukraine. The protesters have imposed a strict schedule, allowing only 12 vehicles every 12 hours to leave Ukraine and permitting four trucks with humanitarian aid to cross every hour.
