Tributes Pour in For South African Rap Superstar, Riky Rick



South African rapper and style icon Riky Rick died on Wednesday at 34. A cause of death has not been made public.

A former member of Boyz n Bucks, the Sama-nominated rapper rose to fame following the release of his single Nafukwa in 2014.

A celebration of music and fashion, Riky founded Cotton Fest in 2019, which was set to return on 19 and 20 March.

With tributes flooding social media, Riky is remembered not just for his music career but also for living a life of humility and integrity.

In a moving Instagram post, Somizi wrote: “I am not ok.”

“Little did I know im hugging you for the last time…, [sic]” he captioned the video clip of him and Riky together.

“If i was asked whats the one thing ill remember u by… id undoubtedly say the way u got excited to see me whenever we bumped into each other…, [sic]” he added.

“Riky Rick was really a quality human at every encounter… if this is true… we’ve lost a really bright light in our industry,” tweeted Pearl Thusi, as news of the musician’s death sent shockwaves on social media.

Nkanyezi tweeted: “This is so painful. rest easy my brother. thank you for everything you’ve done for the culture. we love you.”
