Algarve, the Portuguese municipality has sparked a high interest among digital nomads, especially those in the UK, Ireland and the US, companies reveal, citing the laid-back lifestyle and simplicity of obtaining a digital nomad visa, as the top reasons.
This trend is confirmed by the high number of attendees at roadshows displaying the Algarve as a suitable destination for digital nomads. Such roadshows have been open for visitations in the US (Atlanta, Austin and Boston), and throughout the UK and Ireland, SchengenVisaInfo reports.
Experts point out that different Portuguese cities and places attract different digital nomads, with some being more interested in a relaxed lifestyle, thus choosing to live in Algarve and others opting for more urban destinations such as Lisbon and Porto.
Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa Scheme Among Most Convenient
According to the organisers of the ‘Living in Portugal’ and ‘Moving to Portugal’ shows in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively, an increased rate of interest in the Portugal Digital Nomad Visa has been noticed.
Interest remains high as shown by 60.4 per cent of attendees at our March ‘Moving to Portugal’ show (in London) wishing to find out about residency and visas.
Hippisley also told the Portugal Resident that the Algarve is the most popular destination for UK and Irish buyers, with half (49.9 per cent) of visitors inquiring about prices or property info for this region. Compared to October 2023, such inquiries have been up by 47.7 per cent.
On the other hand, 20 per cent of all people attending similar events in three American cities between February 22 and March 2, 2024, showed interest in the digital nomad visa.
The Algarve is the region that is sparking the most interest. It is quite easy to obtain and requires much less documentation than other visas and permits.

The municipalities that invest are the ones that succeed the most.
The experts explained that creating working spaces for digital can be economical but very efficient. All that is needed is providing a space convenient for computers and a stable internet connection.
