Copenhagen Airport of Denmark (CPH) welcomed 26.8 million passengers during 2023, which is 21 per cent more than the previous year.
Such an increase has marked 2023 as the best year since 2019 for Copenhagen Airport.
Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Airports, expressed satisfaction for witnessing a 21 per cent growth in arrivals while noting that this increase included both business and leisure travel.
Two out of three passengers are holidaymakers, and both Danes and southern Swedes use Copenhagen Airport when they fly out to see the world.
CPH further revealed that more than 50 per cent of Copenhagen Airport’s travellers live in Denmark or Sweden. The remaining mainly are tourists travelling to Copenhagen from other European countries and North America.
According to Krogsgaard, the number of tourists who want to visit Copenhagen is growing, and he foresees a higher number of visitors this year.
Many want to experience cool Copenhagen and Danish “hygge” – our famed version of easy living and a cosy relaxed atmosphere. The Danish gourmet scene with great restaurants and the green and innovative approach to life also attracts many tourists.
Regarding the most popular destinations, the UK topped the list as the most popular country for travel last year, attracting nearly 2.6 million passengers on routes to this destination.
Among UK cities, London was the most favourite destination, with about 1.8 million passengers. Among others, CPH noted that the number of passengers travelling to the USA is now back to 2019 levels. More specifically, over one million people flew between Copenhagen and US airports.
The USA is the ninth most popular country to travel to, and it looks like the trend is continuing.
Whereas the total number of passengers that travelled outside Europe in 2023 through Copenhagen Airport, reached 2.9 million.
CPH noted that over the year, sixty airlines operated 321 routes to 164 destinations at Copenhagen Airport, marking the highest figure since 2018.
Whereas in December 2023 alone, nearly two million people travelled through this airport. The top ten destinations for this month, along with the number of passengers, are as follows:
- London (161,359)
