The Czech Republic welcomed over 5.7 million visitors during the second quarter of this year, including the period between April and June.

According to VisitCzechia, a website promoting tourism to the country, a figure of 2.5 million foreign tourists visited, marking an increase of 32 per cent compared to last year. Most foreign tourists came from neighbouring countries, with Germany, Slovakia, and Poland leading the list, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom.

As for the average length of stay for these tourists within the borders of the Czech Republic, it was 3.4 days. Meanwhile, among the preferred destinations, Prague emerged as the leading destination, followed by other countries such as South Moravia and South Bohemia.

According to a press release of VisitCzechia, in the second quarter of 2023, 58,864 tourists from the Netherlands travelled to the Czech Republic. This figure represents a significant increase of 7,300 tourists compared to the same period a year ago.

The month of June proved particularly successful, as no less than 21,000 Dutch people visited the Czech capital. 68 per cent of all Dutch tourists have visited Prague. This can be explained on the one hand by the good flight connection from Amsterdam Schiphol (KLM and Easyjet) and Eindhoven (Transavia) to Prague,” the press release points out.

Furthermore, the average length of stay for Dutch visitors was 3.5 days, slightly exceeding the overall average of 3.4 days.

The flow of visitors from Belgium has also shown an increase during this period, where in the second quarter of 2023, the Czech Republic registered a total of 23,215 Belgian tourists.

Although this figure exceeds the corresponding period 2022, it remains slightly below pre-COVID levels. At the same time, 69 per cent of Belgian tourists were attracted by the allure of Prague, which remained the main destination.

Similarly to the Dutch, the average length of stay for Belgian visitors reflected the same pattern, settling at 3.5 days.

“Next year, we will continue to promote active holidays and family holidays. We do this, among other things, by using press trips. We expect to work towards a full recovery,” CzechTourism Benelux director Petra Koorn pointed out in this regard.

Moreover, in the second quarter of 2023, over 82,000 tourists from the Netherlands and Belgium chose to make the Czech Republic their holiday destination. Based on these data, the number of tourists reflects a significant increase of 15.4 per cent compared to the figures recorded last year.

According to the data by the Czech Statistical Office, the year 2022 saw a significant increase in the number of tourists at collective accommodation establishments, which welcomed a total of 19.5 million guests.

The same authority revealed that this figure shows an increase of 70.9 per cent compared to the same period, previous . These guests also accumulated 50.6 million overnight stays, marking a growth of 58.6 per cent.
