France will open an embassy in Guyana in 2025, becoming the first EU nation to start offering visa services in the country.
Announcing the news, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said that the French Embassy will open in the capital, Georgetown. However, the authority did not disclose the specific month in 2025 when the embassy will commence operations, SchengenVisaInfo reports.
Given the desire to forge closer links as neighbouring countries and friends, Guyana and France have decided to write a new chapter in their history by opening a French Embassy in Georgetown in 2025. France will be the first EU country with this level of diplomatic representation in Guyana.
According to the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the decision to open an embassy in Guyana marks a new chapter that will contribute to strengthening the relations between the two countries.
The same has stressed that establishing an embassy in Guyana will enhance collaboration across multiple sectors, particularly in priority areas for Guyana, where French companies possess significant expertise.
Visa Application Process for Gyanese Will Become More Hassle-Free
With the opening of the French Embassy in Guyana, the process for applying for a Schengen visa will become more hassle-free.
Currently, Guyanans need to travel to Suriname to attend their visa interviews and submit the required documents.
However, once the French Embassy opens, Guyanese will be able to complete all the procedures without having to leave the country.
The Government of the French Republic welcomes the opening of this Embassy, which will help strengthen the integration of our overseas territories in the region and illustrates our ambition to consolidate the universal character of our diplomatic network.
The move has also been welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana, Hugh Hilton Todd.
Minister Todd recognised the advantages that the embassy would offer to Guyanese who want to obtain Schengen visas for the purposes of travelling to the Schengen Area.
He further said that Guyana has extensively deliberated on the establishment of a French Embassy in the country.
Due to the current situation, the Gyanese authorities have also been pushing for a Schengen visa facilitation.
The President of Guyana previously said that citizens of his country currently have to undergo extensive rules just to obtain a Schengen visa.
The same required the Schengen countries to facilitate some of its rules and ultimately permit visa-free travel for Gyanians.
