Diplomatic passport holders of Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, Montenegro, Moldova, Türkiye, Colombia, Peru, and Georgia can now enter Ireland without the need to apply for a visa as the country has dropped this requirement.
Announcing the decision, the Minister of Justice of Ireland, Helen McEntee, said that the country decided to lift the visa requirement for diplomats of the nine countries mentioned above to strengthen the political, cultural, and economic ties, SchengenVisaInfo reports.
Minister McEntee further noted that this decision will bring Ireland and these countries together and will help in developing close relationships in the future.
In addition to lifting the visa requirement for diplomatic passport holders, Ireland has dropped this rule for some other people involved in the diplomatic scene, too.
As Minister McEntee revealed, now it is also no longer required for those from Qatar, Kuwait, Montenegro, Moldova, Türkiye, Colombia, Peru, and Georgia who hold an official, service, or public affairs passport and who are accompanying a Minister of the Government to Ireland to obtain a visa.
The lifting of the visa requirement for diplomatic passport holders and officials accompanying visiting Ministers will enhance the close ties in the political, economic, and cultural spheres and continue to develop a close relationship with those countries.
Similar to Ireland, which now will be permitting visa-free entry to these groups of foreigners from Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, Montenegro, Moldova, Türkiye, Colombia, Peru, and Georgia, the Irish authorities stressed that diplomats of the country also enjoy unrestricted entry to these nations.
To ensure safety and security and to strengthen international relations with other countries, Ireland reviews its visa rules from time to time.
When needed, the country eases some of the rules for some groups of travellers, and at other times, it tightens the entry criteria for others.
Ireland Imposed Visa Requirement for 3 Countries Just Recently
Just recently, Ireland decided to impose a visa requirement for Dominica, Honduras, and Vanuatu nationals.
Since March 7, 2024, the nationals of these three countries have needed to apply for and obtain an Ireland visa in order to be permitted entry into the country.
However, certain facilitations apply. Since the decision was imposed within a shorter period of time, Ireland has decided to provide arrangements for certain affected people.
Nationals of Dominica, Honduras, and Vanuatu who have already made travel arrangements and who prove that they have booked and paid for their trip and that they will be entering the country on or before April 7, 2024, will benefit from emergency travel assistance.
