A recent survey has revealed that the UEFA European Championship is one of the most mentioned reasons for travel among Kosovar respondents.

According to the survey of 3,050 respondents, one of the emerging reasons for Kosovars to travel in 2024 was this sports event, which will be held in Germany in June.

In addition to the UEFA EURO 2024, music concerts held across the EU cities are another reason why more people want to travel to the EU in 2024. The survey also reveals that Germany is the main destination for Kosovars, as 28.3 per cent of them listed this country as the first stop in their trips to the EU.

During their trips to the EU, the majority of respondents said they are interested in exploring parks, beaches, and outdoor activities (67.3 per cent), in addition to visiting museums and exploring the culture (59.6 per cent), exploring the country’s culinary heritage (40.8) and going shopping (39.2 per cent).

Moreover, around 49.2 per cent of respondents said they chose hotels as their preferred accommodation alternative and 47.1 per cent plan to stay with their families or loved ones. Another 3.7 per cent want to stay with their friends.

Kosovars’ travel expenses are also expected to be higher this year as the majority of respondents – around 67.3 per cent said they would be spending more for travelling this year. In comparison, 21.2 per cent said that they don’t know if they will be spending more for travelling, while 11.4 per cent said that they will not be spending more than they already have before the visa liberalisation.

Furthermore, the majority of respondents have yet to start planning their trips – 42 per cent compared to 18 per cent that have been saving for up to three months for their travelling plans in 2024.

The plane is also the main means of transportation, as 2,280 respondents said they would be travelling by plane, compared to car (410), bus (280) and train (80). In addition, tourism is the main reason for travelling (1,780) compared to family visits (910) and business (150).

Kosovars’ preparations for travelling in 2024 include planning their visits’ destinations (54.3 per cent) and budgeting (44.5 per cent), while another 26.1 per cent have not started their preparations yet.

Moreover, around 28.2 per cent of respondents said they were looking into alternatives for accommodation, and 33.1 per cent had checked flight tickets deals.
