To apply for or renew a Dutch passport in the Netherlands, applicants must visit the town hall of the municipality where they are registered.
When applying for the passport, several documents must be submitted, including a recent passport photo that meets the requirements and documents that prove identity and Dutch nationality.
Once all the required documents are submitted, passport applicants need to pay the processing fee and then wait for their passport to be ready.
The processing time for a Dutch passport is around five working days. However, the authorities suggest that those who will be travelling within a short period of time should apply for the document prior so they do not face any last-minute inconveniences.
Dutch passports as well as identity cards are valid for a period of ten years from the date of issue for adults. On the other hand, the documents are valid only for five years for those under 18.
