Recent data from Mabrian have shown that the most expensive country in northern Europe to fly to right now is the Netherlands.
According to Mabrian, such a conclusion was reached after analysing the evolution of average flight prices in the last two years, with the results showing that for the northern Europe region, it is the most expensive to fly to the Netherlands.
In Northern Europe, none of the countries analysed have returned to 2021 levels. The most expensive country to travel to right now is the Netherlands.
Due to the high demand and with a record-breaking booking rate this year, flight prices to the Netherlands started increasing as early as in spring, with them reaching the peak during the summer months when more people decided to visit the country.
Apart from the Netherlands, other countries in northern Europe also saw an increase in flight prices, while some others have remained more stable.
As data from Mabrian show, the Netherlands is followed by the United Kingdom, which registered the most significant flight price increase in 2023 compared to 2021.
On the other hand, France and Germany have had high price peaks during 2022, whereas Norway has remained the most stable country in terms of flight prices over the last two years.
Commenting on the matter, Gavin Eccles, an aviation and tourism consultant of GE Consulting, said that focusing on northern Europe, flight prices for the period January 23 to June 22 showed a strong increase in the first few months, with travel from countries in the region continuing to flourish through the winter and early summer.
As we approach the summer peak, 2023 prices have come back in line with the high prices seen in the summer of 2022, highlighting the strong resilience in these key markets and the importance these markets play for the strategic approach of the airlines.
Despite increased flight prices, the Netherlands continues to remain one of the most popular destinations in Europe this year, too.
Statistics Netherlands just recently revealed that the five major airports of the country processed almost 19 million passenger arrivals and departures in the second quarter of 2023.
Similar to the other years, Schiphol Airport recorded the largest number of flights in the second quarter of this year – 115,000 flights.
Eindhoven Airport, which is the Netherlands’ second airport in terms of passenger traffic, handled 1.9 million passenger arrivals and departures.
