Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, experienced a notable increase in tourism during the first three quarters of 2023, attracting an estimated 5.45 million visitors. This marked a significant increase of 28 per cent compared to the previous year.
The majority of visitors to Prague, about 78 per cent, came from international destinations, underscoring the city’s enduring global appeal. The remaining 22 per cent were domestic travellers from the Czech Republic.
According to local media, a significant highlight was the increase in tourists from Asia, with their numbers nearly doubling over the first three quarters of the year. This surge was largely attributed to the introduction of direct flights to Seoul and Taipei in July.
In addition, tourist arrivals from South Korea rose by 287 per cent to 110,276 individuals, while those from Taiwan saw an astonishing increase of 1,091 per cent, totalling 46,293 people.
Among Prague’s attractions managed by Prague City Tourism, the Petřín Lookout Tower emerged as the most visited, drawing in 606,768 visitors in the first three months, reflecting a year-on-year increase of over 74,000 individuals.
Looking ahead, Prague City Tourism aims to strengthen cooperation with Václav Havel Airport and Czech Tourism. Next year, there will be a focus on the Touchpoint platform, prioritising support for long-haul flights to improve connectivity and tourism.
Moreover, Prague City Tourism continues to play a crucial role in promoting Prague as a vibrant and diverse tourist destination. With a strategic emphasis on expanding collaborative efforts, Prague anticipates not only maintaining but also strengthening its allure for global travellers in the years to come.
Czechia’s capital, Prague, continues to garner global acclaim, securing the eighth position in Lonely Planet’s esteemed “Top 10 Cities in the World” for 2024. This recognition underscores Prague’s rich history and distinctive architecture, solidifying its status as a must-visit destination.
Previously, Lonely Planet’s comprehensive assessment of over 200 destinations took into account various factors, placing Prague prominently in the global spotlight.
In September 20223, the city also won second place in the list of top global destinations for solo explorers in September 2023. Prague’s exceptional safety standards played a major role in its recognition, boasting an impressive safety index of 75.39 on Numbeo, surpassing many other European cities.
The welcoming atmosphere of the city also stood out, with Prague achieving a strong score of 62 out of 100 on the friendliness index, the report reveals.
