The latest data released by the Spanish tourism office, Turespaña revealed that the total planned seats for international flights to Spain this December have surged to 8.1 million, marking a 14.2 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2022, when there were 7.1 million offered seats.
Data also show that this December, Poland presented an outstanding performance, with a staggering 90.7 per cent more seats planned than in December 2022.
The Czech Republic follows closely with a 46.2 per cent increase. At the same time, the United States shows a total of 27.2 per cent growth in seats year-on-year.
As for Austria, it demonstrates a significant year-on-year growth of 26.4 per cent in seats on flights scheduled for this December.
This December, which is expected to be excellent for tourism, will round off a final quarter of good data and boom in the sector, in line with the process of deseasonalisation of tourist flows, which everything indicates will continue in 2024.
The distribution of seats on scheduled flights by country reveals that the UK takes the lead, with 19.3 per cent of the total reserved seats for this month. Following closely is Germany, holding 12.6 per cent of the allocated seats, and Italy securing the third position with 9.7 per cent.
Previous data of Turespaña also indicated a noteworthy 9.8 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of available flight seats in October 2023, compared to the same month in 2022, which recorded a total of 9.6 million seats.
The same source revealed a significant variance of 393,552 more seats compared to October 2019, when a total of 10.1 million planned seats were reported.
Turespaña’s figures further data highlight Portugal’s strong performance, boasting a remarkable year-on-year growth rate of 21.2 per cent. Similarly, Mexico has experienced a notable growth rate of 20.5 per cent compared to the previous year.
Moreover, the total seats scheduled by airlines for flights to Spain between June and August 2023 have surpassed 32.4 million, marking a 94 per cent recovery compared to the same period in 2019.
In this regard, the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism Reyes Maroto, has expressed optimism, stating that after an exceptional Easter, the summer season’s figures are promising and approaching pre-pandemic levels.
