The Headquarters of the Hungarian National Police (ORFK) has issued a warning about an unexpected IT glitch that has caused delays with travel schedules.
This warning also applies to all travellers passing through Liszt Ferenc International Airport and various road border points in the country, SchengenVisaInfo reports.
Through a recent statement, ORFK said that as of March 11, 2024, starting at 9:15 a.m., a computer problem has caused delays at several road border points and Budapest’s International Airport. Thus, passengers are asked to anticipate longer wait times and exercise patience while authorities deal with technical glitches.
We recommend that those travelling abroad find out about the opening hours of border crossings and the current waiting times on the Border Info page of the police website and the Police Road Information System (Routine) mobile application before leaving.
In the meantime, travellers were advised to stay updated on opening hours and current waiting times by checking the Határinfó page on the police website and the Rendőrségi Útinformációs Rendszer (Rutin) mobile app.

Despite operational challenges, Menzies Aviation announced a significant expansion of its cargo handling terminal at Budapest Airport’s Cargo City. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for cargo services, highlighting the strategic importance of the airport in the global logistics network.
Comparing the expansion plans and the IT glitch presents a complex picture of Budapest Airport’s challenges and opportunities. The IT system failure at the airport and border point serves as a reminder of the crucial role technology plays in modern aviation and logistics operations. As an aviation company, Menzies Aviation expands, the incident highlights the need for robust IT infrastructure to support growth and prevent future disruptions.
Budapest Airport’s Continued Expansion
Moreover, stakeholders noted that they will closely monitor how Budapest Airport and its partners address these challenges to ensure reliability and efficiency in Hungary’s bustling transport hubs.
As Budapest Airport continues to grow as a key player in international logistics, the lessons learned from this IT problem will shape strategies for sustainable growth in the dynamic aviation sector.
Budapest Airport has undertaken several terminal expansion projects to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and improve facilities. For example, the construction of Terminal 2B in 2010 added additional capacity for domestic and international flights, while renovations to Terminal 1 have modernized the facility to meet contemporary standards.
