These Are Top Five LGBTQ+ Friendly Destinations for 2023, According to Mabrian.
A recent study conducted by Mabrian, which analysed over 55 million hotel reviews across Europe, has revealed the top five LGBTQ+ friendly destinations listed in descending order, which are Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, and Paris.
According to Mabrian, these cities have become highly sought after for LGBTQ+ travellers, thanks to their exceptional quality of service and unwavering acceptance.
Berlin has a reputation for being one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly cities in the world. The city is known for its diverse nightlife, inclusive neighbourhoods like Schöneberg, and annual Pride celebrations.
Similarly, Madrid has a thriving LGBTQ+ scene, mainly centred around the Chueca neighbourhood. The city hosts one of Europe’s largest Pride parades, Madrid Orgullo.
Barcelona is another city known for its vibrant LGBTQ+ community. The Eixample district is a popular area for LGBTQ+ locals and visitors, and the town hosts an annual Pride celebration called Pride Barcelona.
Lisbon has recently gained recognition as an LGBTQ+-friendly destination. The city offers a welcoming atmosphere, diverse nightlife options, and a growing number of LGBTQ+-friendly establishments.
Lastly, Paris, the “City of Love,” also is a popular destination for LGBTQ+ travellers. The Marais neighbourhood is a hub for LGBTQ+ culture and nightlife. Paris hosts an annual Pride parade and is home to iconic LGBTQ+ landmarks like Le Marais and Les Deux Magots.
Mabrian conducted its analysis by harnessing spontaneous reviews from major travel opinion portals and focused explicitly on opinions from or relevant to the LGBTQ+ traveller segment.
As Mabrian explains, the LGBTQ+ tourists segment is highly sought after by many tourist destinations due to their above-average consumption patterns. These travellers often exhibit a higher level of spending during their trips.
“The LGTBQ+ segment is both significant in size and profitable, making it an area of special interest for the hotel sector. In order to attract this segment, hotels strive to provide exceptionally high standards of quality and personalised attention,” Marketing Director at Mabrian Carlos Cendra pointed out.
Cendra also emphasised the significance of Spain’s achievement in having two entries among the top five European destinations, acknowledging the competition within the segment.
Last year, a survey conducted by the UK-based information and comparison website, the Merchant Machine, selected Malta as the safest destination for holidaymakers from the LGBTQI+ community.
At the same time, the Merchant Machine survey analysed various metrics, such as LGBTQI+ hate crime protection, speech and gay marriage laws, overall crime statistics, robbery rates, crime indexes, and the Global Peace Index.
Based on these factors, Malta emerged as the safest country for LGBTQI+ holidaymakers, with a safety index of 369 and the second-lowest robbery rate among all surveyed countries.
