10,874 temporary passports were issued at the Passport point at Warsaw Chopin Airport between April and December 2023, the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration has revealed.
The highest number of passports were issued during the holiday period, with 1,894 documents in July and 1,846 in August.
Furthermore, for three consecutive days after the holidays, the Passport point issued over 100 documents each day, according to the same source. The highest number of passports, reaching a record of 125 temporary passports, was recorded on August 14, 2023.
A temporary passport is granted in instances where travellers lose or forget their passport or ID card, or their passport is stolen. In this situation, such a document can be received at the Passport Point within the Warsaw Chopin Airport.
However, individuals are required to present a valid airline ticket during the application submission. The on-site personnel at the designated point then check the identity of the applicants and take a necessary photograph for document issuance.
In cases where a temporary passport is issued for children, both parents are required to give their consent.
The cost for a temporary passport at this location is PLN 30 (approximately seven euro).
Thanks to the Passport Document Register, which has been operating since 2022, the application for a temporary passport is generated electronically and then signed on a signature affixing device.
The Ministry further revealed that, due to services provided at the passport point, they successfully facilitated various individuals during their special occasions. These instances included parents receiving a journey as a birthday gift, and also another person being able to travel for the defence of the doctoral thesis.
Temporary passports were also granted to parents who could, thanks to them, attend their daughter’s wedding and to a couple embarking on their honeymoon.
The Ministry pointed out that the passport point provides services from Monday to Friday, between 08:00 and 20:00, and it is located within the Terminal A public area at the Warsaw Airport. In addition, there is also an Info Kiosk for individuals who need information about temporary passports.
Currently, Poland’s passport is ranked as the 20th most powerful passport in the world, according to VisaGuide.World Passport Index. This implies that Polish passport holders are able to travel without a visa to 101 countries and passport-free to 43 countries.
However, they are required to obtain a traditional visa in 20 countries, a visa on arrival in 30 countries and an e-visa in another 22 countries.
