Warsaw Chopin Airport Passport Centre Issues 1,725 Temporary Documents in Just 1 Day

The passport assistance centre at Warsaw Chopin Airport issued temporary passports to 1,725 ​​individuals on Sunday, February 25.

Data provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland shows that since its launch in April 2023, this service has come to the aid of over 13,200 travellers, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The passport point at the Warsaw airport is very popular among travellers. During the last winter break, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration employees helped many people who did not have valid passports and wanted to go on a winter holiday.

According to the Ministry, the first week of the holidays saw a record-breaking 469 passports, with 114 documents issued on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Travellers using the service provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Okęcie most often chose destinations such as Egypt, Great Britain, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic.

As the Ministry explains, temporary passports can be obtained at Warsaw Chopin Airport, where you must present a valid airline ticket when applying. At that point, an employee verifies your identity and takes a photograph required for the document.

Moreover, temporary passports are valid for up to 365 days, depending on your situation. The application process is electronic and signed using a signature device, thanks to the Register of Passport Documents created in 2022.

To receive a temporary passport at Warsaw Chopin Airport, a traveller must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Their passport/ID card is lost, forgotten, or stolen.
  • Their passport or ID card has expired.
  • They possess a valid airline ticket.

To obtain a temporary passport at Warsaw Chopin Airport, there is a fee of PLN 30 (about seven euros). Payment can only be made using a payment card at the airport point.

Over 10,800 Temporary Passports Issued Between April & December 2023

Between April and December 2023, the passport office at Warsaw Chopin Airport issued a total of 10,874 temporary passports.

The busiest period for issuing passports was during the holidays, with 1,894 documents issued in July and 1,846 in August.

Additionally, the Passport point issued over 100 documents daily for three consecutive days after the holidays. The peak occurred on August 14, 2023, with a record-breaking 125 temporary passports issued on that day.
