Winter Warning: Tourists Urged to Exercise Caution as Cold Weather Sweeps Across Europe in December

0

Weather across the European continent is expected to worsen in the upcoming days, as countries like Moldova and Ukraine have experienced heavy snowfall, which resulted in victims, while Bulgaria has declared a state of emergency, as storms have left more than 1,000 villages without electricity.

On the other hand, last week, the Irish Meteorological Service (Met Éireann) issued a Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning, which applies to the whole country of Ireland.

Very cold, with lowest temperatures of zero to minus four degrees with a widespread sharp frost and icy patches. Mist and fog in parts, too.

The same forecasts that the weather on Monday will be wet and windy, which will spread over the south and east of the country eerie on in the day, increasing the possibility of scattered falls of sleet. Temperatures will be lowest in the north, while the south can expect milder weather.

This means that tourists to Europe should pack heavy bags and be prepared for a wintery holiday, which can make the end-of-the-year holidays even more memorable, but the risk of catching a cold is very prominent.

According to a weather analysis website, this year’s winter will unfold differently each month, but the European continent and eastern United States should expect some of the lowest temperatures.

December will start out with snowfall, which will continue to snow in many parts of the continent, especially in Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, France, some parts of Italy, and even fewer parts of Spain.

In the next ten days, snowfall is also expected in the United States, with the western region across the Rockies, parts of the Midwest, the Northeast with lake-effect snow, and even some areas into the central Plains being affected by such weather.

On the other hand, Bloomberg reports that the beginning of December will not set out the tone for the rest of the month as above-average temperatures are expected to be recorded in the UK, France and Germany, while the Scandinavian countries and northern Scotland will experience extreme cold.

However, higher temperatures will be noticed in Spain, Türkiye and the Balkans, which will be warmer than usual.

That said, brief bouts of cold air intrusion into western and central Europe cannot be ruled out, especially so in the days leading into January.

Regardless of the weather, tourists to Europe are always advised to purchase travel insurance when travelling to the zone, as it can protect them from unexpected expenses. Companies like AXA Travel Insurance, Europ Assistance, Allianz Travel Insurance, Mondial Care, Mutuaide and DR-WALTER offer some of the best deals so that tourists can have a safe and merry European holiday.
